How to Avoid Cyberbullying

Social media has been very popular today. No wonder, how people can easily express themselves through these different web and mobile technologies. This technology was made to improve our life, yet some people used it improperly to threaten or harm other people exposing them to personal risk. These abusive users of communication technologies send or post rumors, lies and even sexual remarks that can definitely affect the person’s reputation negatively. And this is Cyberbullying.

When a person has been cyberbullied, he or she can feel a wide range of negative emotions. This can make her feel intimidated, depressed or can even make her think suicide. That’s why different institutions are trying to set policies and campaigns that can prevent Cyberbullying. So, what are the ways to get ourselves away from this kind of crime?

There have been laws passed all over the globe on how to avoid cyberbullying. Yet, the government cannot combat this crime without your help. Try to bear these steps in your mind to prevent cyberbullying:

1.    If someone has been sending repeated offensive messages that humiliate the recipient, the victim can save these messages as a proof if he or she will file a case. These can be use to trace back where the messages came from and can eventually identify who is the sender if it happens to be unknown.

2.    For the protection of our children, parental supervision is essential. They should guide and educate their children about the negative effects of too much exposure to these technologies.

3.    As much as possible, try not to post personal or too private information on facebook, twitter, multiply and such because some people might use this to trick you and pretend someone you know or reveal this information to someone else.

4.    Be careful who to add as your friend. Being friendly or popular is never been measured on the number of your friends.

5.    Never give your passwords for your emails, messengers or any other chat sites because these might be use to get your personal information or they can also use your account to trick other people.

6.    Never post pictures that can affect your reputation in the future or at least try to make it private. Other people can use this without your consent.

7.    Above all, awareness is the most important. Protect your account, have some privacy. You should always think the effects of every little thing you do. Be responsible.
